The global warming effect resulting from excessive CO2 emissions is getting increasingly critical and the necessary steps must be taken to collect the CO2 emitted and find a suitable location to sequestrate. The selection of the location influences the final effect of sequestration. The ocean offers promising prospects for sequestration of CO2 due to its vastness and the solubility of CO2 it contains. This paper presents several marine CO2 sequestration technologies, and their benefits and drawbacks as well as their current state of development are assessed. Furthermore, special attention has been paid to the possible environmental issues of the marine CO2 sequestration technologies, and reasonable alternative actions and suggestions are proposed to solve the potential environmental issues. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
